![]() The software would then use a primitive morphing technology to generate frames in-between the user-created frames, allowing complex animations to be created without the requirement that every frame be drawn by the user. It allowed the user to create short vector graphics animations frame-by-frame using a mouse, keyboard, or other device. It was subsequently ported to other platforms such as the Commodore Amiga (198?), Apple IIGS (1987) and the IBM PC (1988). You are welcome to submit multiple entries.Īt the end of the contest three entries will be selected by the RetroBattlestations community and the creator of the animation and the first person running that animation on real hardware will each receive their choice of three retro stickers.Fantavision was an animation program written for the Apple II personal computer series in 1985. Posts that don't meet these criteria will be disqualified and removed. You can include a picture or video of your Fantavision animation running if you would like, but you absolutely must include a link so that others can download your file and try it out. ![]() To participate in the contest you need to make a new post to RetroBattlestations of an animation you created using Fantavision for the Apple II, Apple IIɢs, Amiga, or DOS. At the end of the voting the top three entries will be selected as winners.įantavision Week is from April 17th to April 25th. The community of course enjoys seeing real hardware, so the first person to comment on your post with a video demonstrating your animation on real hardware will also win if you do.Īll of the valid entries received by April 25th will be placed as comments into a new post in contest mode randomizing the comment order, and the following week, you, the RetroBattlestations community, will judge which ones you like best by voting. This contest is more about the software than the hardware it runs on. You can create on real hardware or you can use emulation, either is fine. Your challenge is to create your very own Fantavision animation. If someone would like to make a Python script to do the conversions, you will be rewarded ( see comment below)! ![]() There's a way to convert Apple II to IIɢs, but that's it. I'm a little disappointed that each version of Fantavision used an incompatible file format, making it impossible to share animations between platforms. Fantavision seems to have faded away and has been forgotten, although perhaps After Effects is a more modern version. Yes, that's right, it's another contest for the creative types!įantavision was released for the Apple II, Apple IIɢs, Amiga, and DOS. The effect was called "tweening" and the program was known as Fantavision. But instead of having to create the animation frame by frame or write a complex program using shape tables, you would draw some lines in a couple of different places and then the program would automatically figure out how to draw the line moving from one place to another. :-(Ī program that my sister and I used to really enjoy on our Apple IIɢs was one that would let you make animations. That meant that something in the Alpine Linux must be causing this. I tried running the bundle in a container running Ubuntu image, and it worked fine. The migration bundle was built with a linux-圆4 runtime ID, which fit the image the Docker container was running on. After adding some logging, it was clear the bundle was starting and then doing nothing. The problem was simple - the bundle was starting the application and then hanging. The last issue doesn't have a stack trace or an error message. If it's not, the migrations might fail because of wrong configuration or missing extensions. Side note #2: Make sure the AddDbContext call is the same as your regular one (bar the connection string). ![]() By adding these two simple methods and setting the environment accordingly, the build is faster and more resilient as it skips the unnecessary code. The exception isn't thrown there because the configuration is available. Side note: A similar thing occurs when the bundle is built - the application is started and goes through all the code in the Startup class. Now it's just a matter of setting the ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT variable to BuildDeployment and voilà! The error is gone. A connection string is necessary because otherwise, the setup will fail, but the dummy string works very well. You can provide the connection string as a parameter to the bundle with the -connection switch. Note the dummy connection string in there - that's on purpose. There is a great article on Andrew Lock's blog called Configuring environment specific services in ASP.NET Core - Part 2. There must be a better way - the bundle shouldn't need to go through all the clutter in Configure and ConfigureServices just to run the migrations. It would most likely solve the problem but seems a bit hacky. Another option would be copying a dummy appsettings.json file alongside the bundle executable. On the other hand, you might want to prevent application startup if the configuration is missing. First, the code in the Startup class could be changed so that no nulls would be added to the service provider. Var someConfig = _configuration.GetSection("someConfig").Get() īecause appsettings.json was not present, the someConfig variable was null and that was the problem.
